What is a Grant?
Grant in Islam refers to the act of voluntarily giving ownership of property from one person to another while the giver is still alive, without asking for a return or exchange (‘Iwad’). It differs from a will, which only takes effect after the grantor dies.
Why is the grant important?
Grant is important because it allows the giver or owner of property to distribute his wealth to anyone-family members or non-family members, regardless of their religion. This differs from faraid, where the rights and shares of the heirs of the deceased’s estate are determined based on the provisions of Sharia Law.
